Prague, 18 October 2023 – In September carriers paid the total of 1.26 billion crowns for driving on toll roads. Year-on-year, toll collection in September thus decreased by 2.5 percent. The number of toll transactions also decreased (year-on-year by 4.5 percent to 95 million). September toll collection statistics also reflected the calendar – this September had 1 working day less compared to September 2022.
In the three quarters of this year, carriers paid almost 11.16 billion crowns (-0.2%). The trend from this year is still apparent, when toll collection is stagnating in line with the development of the Czech economy. While toll payments for vehicles registered in the Czech Republic decreased by 2 percent in the first nine months of this year, payments from vehicles registered abroad increased by 1 percent.
At the end of the third quarter, carriers paid CZK 9.9 billion for driving on motorways and CZK 1.3 billion for driving on 1st category roads. Less than a third of the tolls were paid in the prepay toll mode, two thirds were paid by carriers in the post-pay toll mode.
At the end of September 808 thousand vehicles weighing over 3.5 tons were registered in the electronic toll system, of which over 632 thousand vehicles had foreign license plate numbers. For these registered vehicles, CzechToll issued 635 thousand on-board units to carriers.
