Road Toll Collection Exceeds CZK 1.7 Billion Limit in July

Prague, 28 August 2026 – During July of this year, carriers paid tolls for motorway use, including charged sections of 1^st class roads, amounting to nearly 1.7 billion Czech crowns. Toll collection increased by 2.2 % year-on-year, despite the fact that this July was one working day shorter than last July. A little less than one half (46 %) of the collected tolls was paid by domestic carriers.  In July, CzechToll recorded at least one toll translation for 324 thousand vehicles.

In connection with toll collection, CzechToll processed 103 million toll transactions this July, which was roughly the same as last July. Out of the total toll collection in July, nearly CZK 1.5 billion (88 %) came from motorway users and about CZK 208 million were collected from charged 1^st class road use. It needs to be noted that the toll collection breakdown varied significantly for the two road types: while in the case of motorways, 56 % of the total tolls were paid by drivers of vehicles with foreign registration plates, for charged 1^st class roads the ratio was reversed, as 65 % of the tolls collected were paid by drivers of vehicles registered in the Czech Republic.

“The July data well illustrate the different roles of the two parts of the charged road network. While motorways generate a higher proportion of the sum of toll collection due to vehicles registered abroad, charged 1^st class roads, on the contrary, collect about two thirds of all tolls from drivers of vehicles registered in the Czech Republic. The motorway network thus reflects a higher share of international traffic while charged 1^st class roads are used by domestic carriers to a much higher extent than by foreign transport companies,“ says Petr Chvátal, CzechToll´s Chief Executive Officer.

Since the beginning of the year, CzechToll has collected nearly CZK 11.8 billion for the State Transport Infrastructure Fund of the Czech Republic. In absolute numbers, this is CZK 581 million (5.2 %) more than last year.

In late July, the electronic toll system included 820 thousand registered vehicles with the maximum permitted weight over 3.5 tons, of which 186 thousand were vehicles with Czech registration plates. As at the last July day, CzechToll had provided 530 thousand on-board units to toll paying carriers.
