Prague, 6 October 2026 – CzechToll launches an initial information campaign to introduce changes in the electronic toll system operation in Slovakia scheduled to take effect since 1 January 2027. The new electronic toll system will be owned by the National Motorway Company who will remain the toll collection controller. The campaign is part of performance of the Toll Collection Service Contract with the National Motorway Company currently in force. Like the existing one, the new system will be based on satellite-based vehicle position detection and recording of vehicle movements along the specified road sections via an onboard unit installed in the vehicle.
Neither the basic principles of electronic toll collection and the method of toll calculation, nor the network of the specified road sections subject to toll charge and the vehicle categories subject to compulsory toll payment in Slovakia will change. Thus the use of the new system by the carriers will be very similar to the existing one. The prepaid toll regime will be preserved in the national electronic toll system. New developments will include the possibility to register one or more vehicles, or the whole fleet, in a single toll account, or to operate multiple toll accounts, where needed, for example for separate vehicle or cost management. By decision of the National Motorway Company, the post-payment toll system will be discontinued with effect as of 31 December 2026. The use of the prepaid toll regime for the whole fleet will be the alternative offered to the current users of the discontinued system.
The transition from the existing to the new electronic toll system will entail the need to reregister the vehicles that are currently part of the system. Vehicle operators who will use the new national toll system since 1 January 2027 will have to register their fleets to the new system, execute new contracts and equip each vehicle with a new onboard unit.
Information about the registration process, the needed documents and new onboard units, the prepaid toll regime, payment options, toll account management and customer services will be published on a new information portal opened within the domain known to the carriers as www.emyto.sk in due course. Detailed practical guidelines for the transition to the new toll system will be available on the portal since 24 November 2026.
Vehicle registration in the new toll system will start on 1 December 2026. On the same day, a new customer zone called My Toll will be made accessible to the users on the new information portal where they will be able to carry out convenient online registration of their vehicles from the comfort of their office. In addition, there will obviously be the option of personal vehicle registration at selected customer service points. A whole network of these customer service points will be at carriers´ disposal since 1 January 2027. New onboard units will be distributed to the registered vehicle users in the same customer service points after the reregistration process completion. Their use on the road will however not be possible before the launch of the new electronic toll system on 1 January 2027.
The introductory information campaign will be launched on 1 October, with intensity increasing as the launch of the new system will be approaching, and a close on 31 December 2026. CzechToll will inform domestic and foreign carriers via online instruments and social media, printed Slovak and foreign journals, radio, television and outdoor advertising at selected petrol stations, including the www.emyto.sk portal, individual electronic and mail communications, as well as communication via professional associations of carriers. On 1 October 2026, the new Toll Service Provider will also launch a new hotline for customers on +421 222 122 444, where questions concerning the changes in the electronic toll system since 1 January 2027 and the vehicle reregistration process will be answered.
Please note: The information about changes in the electronic toll system operation in Slovakia since 1 January 2027 published in this press release is intended for carriers using the existing Slovak electronic toll system and planning use of the new one, and does not apply to carriers using EETS services.
