Prague, 19 February 2025 – In the first month of 2025, carriers paid CZK 1.48 billion in tolls, up 20% year-on-year. The year-on-year increase is due to the introduction of a fourth component of toll rates – the CO2 emissions charge – since March last year. Adjustments in toll rates and the expansion of the toll road and motorway network from 1 January 2025 also contributed to the growth in January.
The number of toll transactions processed by the toll system increased only slightly compared to January 2024. Their total exceeded 91 million, representing a growth of 1.25%. The growth in the number of transactions was mainly due to the expansion of the toll road and motorway network by more than 100 kilometres since the beginning of January this year.
“On the basis of a government decree, the toll rates were increased as of 1 January 2025, especially for the CO2 emission class. Depending on the vehicle emission class, the rate growth is maximum 5% compared to 2024 levels. There have been no changes to the toll rates for M2 and M3 vehicles and for vehicles powered exclusively by electricity or hydrogen,” said Petr Chvátal, CzechToll CEO.
At the end of January, 884 thousand vehicles weighing over 3.5 tons were registered in the electronic toll system, of which over 701 thousand vehicles had foreign license plate numbers. For the registered vehicles, CzechToll issued 658 thousand on-board units to carriers.
