Prague, 18 September 2024 – Carriers paid 1.376 billion crowns for driving on toll roads in total. This was up 13% year-on-year, although this August had one less working day than August 2023. As a result, the number of toll transactions fell slightly, by 1% year-on-year to 93 million.
The total toll collection since the beginning of this year reached CZK 11.364 billion, thus the collection grew by 14.82% year-on-year. The growth in toll collection thus roughly corresponds to the amount of CO2 emissions charge paid by carriers as a part of the toll rates since March 1st of this year. The revenues from this charge have reached almost CZK 1.3 billion since its introduction, and in August alone the amount slightly exceeded CZK 208 million.
One half of the total tolls paid since the beginning of this year has been paid by domestic carriers. As far as foreign hauliers are concerned, the most frequent users of toll roads in the Czech Republic were hauliers from Poland (20% of the collected toll), Romania (6.1%), Slovakia (6%) and Hungary (4.25%).
As at the end of August 866 thousand vehicles weighing over 3.5 tons were registered in the electronic toll system, of which over 686 thousand vehicles had foreign license plate numbers. For the registered vehicles, CzechToll issued 655 thousand on-board units to carriers.
