On 27 May, the Slovenian motorway company DARS and SkyToll signed a contract for development and operation of an electronic vignette system. The signing of the contract definitively completed the tender procedure in which DARS awarded the task to SkyToll on 29 January 2021. The correctness of the procedure was subsequently confirmed by the Slovenian National Review Commission (DKOM) on 10 May 2021. SkyToll succeeded in the tender with a bid in the amount of € 15.7 mil. (excl. VAT) for the development of a system for the payment of electronic vignettes and its five-year technological support.
Thanks to the technology that has been successfully proven in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, Slovenia will receive a technologically innovative and cost-efficient system for the payment of electronic vignettes and its enforcement. After the Czech Republic, Slovenia is another country which, when selecting a new road network charging system, decided on a solution with top parameters, which has provided comfortable electronic vignette payments for motorists in Slovakia for several years already.
The success of SkyToll in Slovenia demonstrates that the electronic toll payment system, the technical solution of which is used in the Czech Republic as part of the Electronic Toll System for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, is one of the very top in the world.
The new electronic vignette system will also mean a more cost-efficient and user-friendly solution for Slovenia to pay for using Slovenian roads and motorways.
