Toll collection increased by 5.7% in April; Czech highways were also used by vehicles from Iceland and Mongolia

Prague, May 21, 2026 – In April, operators of vehicles with a maximum permitted weight exceeding 3.5 tons paid a total of 1.69 billion crowns for tolled sections of Czech highways and Class 1 roads. Thus, toll collection increased by 5.7% year-on-year. In April, 47% of the total amount of toll collected was paid by domestic carriers, and the remaining 53% was paid by carriers from abroad. Since the beginning of this year, revenues from the Electronic Toll Collection System have reached 6.6 billion crowns (an increase of 5.7% year-on-year).

In April, CzechToll processed more than 102 million toll transactions, i.e. a 0.25 percent decrease year-on-year. The continued growth in toll collection thus confirms the effects of higher toll rates and a stable flow of freight transport on the domestic highway network.

An interesting aspect of the April statistics is the exceptionally diverse representation of countries whose carriers used the Czech transport infrastructure. Vehicles with at least one toll transaction in April were registered from a total of 57 countries across Europe and Asia. Traditionally, vehicles with the largest representation came from the Czech Republic (CzechToll recorded at least one toll transaction for 120 thousand license plates), Poland (80 thousand), Romania (22 thousand), Slovakia (14 thousand) and Hungary (11 thousand).

“The Czech Republic is one of the key European transit routes. Alongside the dominant domestic and Central European carriers, our system also regularly registers vehicles from distant countries. For example, in April, we registered toll transactions from vehicles registered in Iceland, Mongolia, Jordan or Afghanistan,” said Petr Chvátal, CEO of CzechToll.

At the end of April 2026, altogether 844 thousand vehicles with a maximum permitted weight exceeding 3.5 tons were registered in the electronic toll system, of which 185 thousand were from the Czech Republic and another 659 thousand carried foreign registration plates. CzechToll had so far issued almost 550 thousand on-board units to carriers for toll collection.
